"The handset maker went to citizens of Mumbai, Rio and other mega cities for new ideas —and got designs that find graffiti, test water, and emit peace vibes"
Nokia provided the space and the drawing tools, and more than 220 people offered up their vision of the ideal handset. Pictured is Sam from Accra with his design. Nokia asked participants to address the following questions:
What does it look like?
What does it do?
How will you use it?
When and where will you use it?

This phone is the idea of Sam, an artist from Accra. His design is an all-in-one device for high-profile businesspeople or celebrities. It includes a DVD player, mini-laptop, and cable TV, and lets users stay in touch with the world, especially when they are on the road or in a remote area with no electricity.

It looks cool and stylish, but this device is much more than a phone. Packed with practical gadgets such as a toolkit, a bike tracker, and even a book, it is also water-resistant.

Roberto from Rio is concerned about the daily problems the community faces: large open sewage systems, a lack of purified water, and wasted energy. His ideal mobile phone has a rechargeable solar battery.

This watch-shaped phone is solar-powered for remote areas that are either off the electrical grid or where electricity is often unreliable.
